George Driver is an award-winning freelance journalist based in Central Otago, New Zealand.

An experienced writer and editor, George started his career working for respected independent community newspaper Mahurangi Matters north of Auckland, New Zealand where he soon became editor.

After travelling throughout South East Asia and Europe, George became deputy editor at Wilderness magazine, New Zealand’s leading hiking magazine, in 2017. While at Wilderness, George broke a number of stories which were picked up by national media and helped to grow the online presence of the magazine. This work was recognised when he won Journalist of the Year, Consumer Special Interest, at 2018 the Magazine Publishers Association awards, while Wilderness also won Magazine of the Year in the Special Interest category.

He now works as a freelance journalist, working for publications including the The Spinoff and AAP FactCheck.
